Come to a place where everybody knows your name

REPS Personal Fitness Training Center has a new facility designed to enhance the easy-going private club atmosphere that has made it south Maui’s premier training center. A team of very special fitness trainers provides inspirational one-on-one workout sessions in resistance weight training, stretching, Pilates, and core and cardio-vascular conditioning.

Marjo Selin, co-owner and trainer, attributes REPS’ five-star quality to “our personable staff’s professional diversity, knowledge and passion for living healthy.  Collectively, they bring a century of fitness experience. Our clients are never bored and that keeps them coming back for more.”

“REPS is not a regular recreational gym, it’s a personal fitness center dedicated to promoting longevity and wellness. Most of our clientele is 50 and over, in fact 40% is over 65.” points out Hannu Selin, co-owner and trainer. Hannu also assists clients on approaches to nutrition and lifestyle.

“People who become our clients get to know one another and REPS becomes part of their routine and their way of life. It’s a networking place, where sharing the interest of fitness creates a foundation for friendship.” says Marjo. “We also offer Spin, pilates, yoga stretch classes, and for the ‘regulars’, it’s an event of friends.”

Marjo and Hannu Selin have earned international bodybuilding fame. Their lifetime achievements are our local fortune.

In 1988 when they moved to Maui from Washington, DC, Marjo and Hannu brought with them a passion for sharing their knowledge of health and fitness.  They dreamed of owning a world-class personal training studio where members could experience the feeling of belonging to something very special. Today REPS’ new Wailea Town Center location is the premier destination for those seeking the finest and most exciting approaches to personal fitness and health.

“In my opinion, REPS specializes in effectively assisting clients who want to make lifestyle changes,” notes Bobbie Becker, ACE certified Personal Fitness Trainer who worked at REPS for four years until enrolling in the nursing program on Maui.  “REPS always has a team of highly skilled and well educated trainers, but what really sets them apart is how much they genuinely care that the people they work with achieve results.  The trainers at REPS are here not only to design appropriate and challenging workouts for the clients, but even more importantly, they give moral support, factual information and understanding."

At 92 years young, Wendell Arnold of Wailea is turning back the hands of time.  “In 2003 we started working out.  It’s a very fine facility.  My wife, Betty and I wouldn’t give it up. We might give up golf but we won’t give up working out at REPS.  I’ve trained with Bobbie Becker twice a week for 3 years.  I feel great and I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Pat Haug of Wailea insists, “I have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and I feel strongly that if I didn’t work out at REPS I probably wouldn’t be walking.  It will be a part of my life for the rest of my life. And it keeps my husband, Pete young!”

Don Atkinson confessed, “I’ve known about REPS for five years and I’ve found every excuse to not go. Six weeks ago I started going 2 days a week and I just love the place. All the trainers have a smile on their face.  They are the most caring people and I so look forward to going.”

“At REPS there’s a wonderful kind of feeling that everybody cares about you. It’s changed my life.” endorses Wendy Moreton.  My husband, Colin, and I actually gave up our morning golf to go to REPS regularly.  We’re at REPS to get healthier.  But it isn‘t just about going to the gym, it’s about going in and saying hello to your family-of-friends.”

“‘Gym’ is just too common a word for the REPS operation. It’s a fitness ohana.” says Kathy Worley, Broker, who co-owns Pali Kai Realtors with her husband, Jim Worley. “I’ve had other trainers at other places, but with Bobbie Becker’s and other REPS trainers' coaching I’ve lost and kept 20 pounds off for nearly 3 years. Working out at REPS started off as a luxury, now it’s a necessity.  As I see it, REPS is a training ground for the marathon of life. And the second half is a lot harder.”

Even though Marjo and Hannu are world-class sport competition celebrities they could not be more personable. In fact, fitness magazine writers named them “the most likeable and fun couple in fitness.”

Adding to their charm, there’s a sincere commitment to community spirit. REPS participates in many Maui fundraisers. Among other causes, they have donated to the Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center, hosted tables for the Terry Fox galas and most recently contributed to the Montessori School Children’s Tuition Fund.

Karen Williams is a Montessori Hale O Keiki board member. “One of the great things about REPS,” says Karen, “is they do a lot of good for the community. They are very involved and do what they possibly can to promote the goodwill passions of their clients.  They rally behind worthy causes and get their clients out in support.  My husband, Dave, is on the worldwide cancer research ‘V Foundation’ board of directors.  Marjo and Hannu have been instrumental in bringing new Maui members into this community hui. “

“In 2003 REPS had a Terry Fox Run sign-up sheet.  I had never done a ‘K’ walk in my life and yet, Marjo made me believe I could do it,” says Wendy Moreton.  “Hannu walked with me and made it so much fun I didn’t even know I was walking.  At the 2005 Four Seasons’ Resort sponsorship breakfast, we were proudly showing off our tee shirts, our HEALTH and our support. We’re all looking forward to 2006 where once again REPS will participate as a dedicated, caring and active ohana.”

Feeling forever blessed to live on Maui, the Selins continue their life mission to help as many as possible take pleasure in the benefits of physical fitness and good health. Their motto is: ‘Stay Active, Be Fit, Have Fun!’ “You will feel healthier and more energized.  It’s a gift you give yourself and your loved ones every day.”
